About Us

Who we are

Communities@Work is a not for profit company limited by guarantee, managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  Our head office is within the Tuggeranong Community and Function Centre and we have another main campus at the Weston Creek Community Centre.

Communities@Work is the largest of six regional community services in the Australian Capital Territory and was formed in May 2002 as a result of the merger of the Tuggeranong and Weston Creek Community Services.

What we do

Communities@Work cares for people of all ages across the ACT. 

We offer:

  • quality child care from birth to teenage years
  • support services, events and leisure programs for young people
  • practical support for families
  • social activities, home help and transport for seniors.
  • managed community facilities
  • services for people with disabilities
  • nationally accredited training
  • community festivals and events

In our work, we:

  • deliver child care and community services to around 40% of the community across the ACT and surrounding regions out of 32 locations
  • make more than 140,000 client contacts each year
  • employ a paid workforce of over 360 staff and have a volunteer workforce of around 200. 
  • have approximately 150 self-employed family day care and in-home carers
  • are a Registered Training Organisation, specialising in the Community Services and Health Industries
  • collaborate with other organisations and individuals on community development projects and events to strengthen connections between people, foster well being, and celebrate our community's creativity.

Our Funding

Our programs are funded through the payment of fees for service and through contracts with the Australian Federal and ACT governments and through generous donations from business and individuals.

Organisational Structure

  • Communities@Work has over 350 paid staff, 180 volunteers and around 150 self-employed family day carers and in-home carers.

Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan 2012-2014 is being progressively implemented to achieve the objectives determined by the Board of Directors. 

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Communities@Work's Board of Directors decided at their May 2009 meeting that the organisation would develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), in active and practical support of one of Reconciliation Australia's key strategies.  The Chair of the Board, John Turner, signed a RAP document, including a Statement of Commitment, on 27 May 2009.
