What we do.
Respite Options ACT is a federally funded respite program in the ACT offering flexible respite options to meet the individual needs of carers and care recipients.
We provide one on one respite and support services to carers of people who are experiencing severe mental illness and / or intellectual disabilities. The service enables carers time to recover from the stress of daily living, and to balance work and caring responsibilities.
We do this by;
- Providing support for daily tasks
- Offering assistance to access social and community activities
- Access to rehabilitation programs, and
- Providing an information and referral service
Support services are available seven days a week.
Who is eligible?
Carers who live in the ACT and care for a person who is experiencing severe mental illness and/ or intellectual disability.
How much will it cost?
Fees apply, however, no carer is (will be) excluded from receiving service.
How does it work?
- A skilled co-ordinator will visit the carers home and will discuss in detail the type of support needed.
- The co-ordinator will then develop a support plan in consultation with the carer and the person they are caring for.
- Support workers are then carefully selected to provide the support to meet the carer and care recipient’s needs
What type of support is provided?
The types of support we can provide include;
- Shopping
- Meal preparation
- Leisure activities
- Support to participate in recreational activities
