Our Philosophy of Volunteering
Volunteering can be whatever you want to make it!
We greatly value and respect the time and generosity of our volunteers.
Who can be a Volunteer?
Our volunteer program has a team of over 170 dedicated people who assist us to provide care and valuable services for individuals and families in Tuggeranong and Weston Creek and in other ACT locations.
Anyone can volunteer - from students to retirees, employed people or those looking for work. We provide ongoing training, debriefing, newsletters and social gatherings. For those wanting to enter or return to the workforce, we offer a variety of useful workplace experiences.
How much time do I need to give?
As much or as little as you can manage.
Our volunteer's time commitments range from:
- special one off events
- time-limited projects
- an ongoing activity of 2 hours a week
- 'active retirement' of 15 hours a week!
What does a Volunteer do?
A volunteer may:
What skills do I need as a Volunteer?
Almost anyone can be a volunteer if you:
- enjoy meeting people
- are friendly, helpful and caring
- are a good listener
Many skills can be put to great use as a volunteer
- Are you a safe driver?
- Can you lead excursions and group activities?
- Do you have a talent you can teach others?
- Can you help with public events?
- Do you have manual skills?
- Can you use a computer?
Why is volunteering important?
Volunteering is a great way to participate in the life of our community and to help make it a strong and caring community. Volunteers can really make a difference in the lives of individuals by giving them practical support and some friendly company. Volunteering can also be of great personal benefit to the volunteers themselves, improving both physical and mental health, developing self-confidence and self-esteem and providing social networks.
