What is Family Day Care Quality Assurance?

Family Day Care Quality Assurance (FDCQA) is based on six Quality Areas and 30 Principles that summarise and define quality in family day care. These Areas and Principles guide the Scheme in maintaining and improving the quality of child care practices. They also provide the framework by which quality is measured.

FDCQA is an Australian Government initiative launched in July 2001. FDCQA is part of the Government's commitment to ensure all children in child care receive high quality care that best promotes their learning and development in the vital early years.

For further information on FDCQA visit the National Childcare Accreditation Council website.

ACT Government Licensing

The ACT Children and Young People Act 1999 provides a system for licensing child care services including Family Day Care and provides the basis for the implementation of standards to facilitate the provision of quality child care.

The ACT Family Day Care Conditions for Approvals in Principle and Licences system is underpinned by three basic principles:

  • The best interests of the child are considered paramount.
  • Children's services should provide care that is safe, positive and nurturing.
  • Children's services should promote the educational, social and developmental well-being of the child.

The Scheme has implemented a number of measures to ensure that licence requirements are monitored and met.

The legislation covering children's services in the ACT is administered by the Children's Policy and Regulations Unit in the Office for Children, Youth and Family Support website.

Children's Policy and Regulations Unit is located at:
Level 7
11 Moore Street
Canberra City ACT 2600
Phone: 6207 1114
