Family & Individual Support — FAQs
Q: What sort of support services do you provide?
A: Our support services include advocacy, support, information and advice provided to you in an individualised approach. Through this support we aim to help you to address the key issues affecting you such as housing, financial problems, and family &/or relationship issues. We can also help you to make connections with other services that may be helpful.
Q: How do I access the program?
A: If you’d like to access our program you can either contact us directly or someone else can do it for you. This may be your doctor, a neighbour or friend, or anyone that is concerned about you and thinks that you may benefit from our services. Please note though that it is essential that anyone contacting us on your behalf must have your consent first and no action will be taken in the absence of that consent.
Q: Is there a fee for your services?
A: We are an ACT Government funded service to ensure that families within Tuggeranong & Weston Creek have access to support services. There is no fee for our support services.
To participate in the community education programs or social groups a contribution may be required. This contribution is advertised when the group programs are announced.
Q: How long will the support be provided for?
A: Given the individualised nature of our service we try not to set any strict time–frames although we do have to make sure we are accessible to other clients and those waiting for support.
Depending on the nature and complexity of the issues you are experiencing you may not require support for long. Alternatively, your needs may require a longer term approach. In this case, we aim to provide assistance for a maximum period of 12 months at which time your progress will be assessed & a recommendation made about the provision of future support.
Q: Do you provide counselling?
A: No, we provide support through skilled and experienced case workers. A referral can be made to a counsellor, if required.
Q: Who do you support?
A: Our Family & Individual Support service is accessible to any residents of the Tuggeranong or Weston Creek areas.
Our community education program & social groups are accessible to all community members.
Q: Do you provide food assistance?
A: We are able to provide limited food assistance through our Emergency Relief program which provides food vouchers for use at Woolworth’s supermarkets.
Q: Do you provide crisis accommodation?
A: No, but we can make a referral on your behalf to a crisis accommodation service provider.
Q: Do you provide help with transport?
A: No, but we can make a referral on your behalf to a transport service provider.
