Family & Individual Support — SuperGrands
SuperGrands
SuperGrands is ideal for a young parent or family who wants to improve their skills in shopping to a budget, menu planning, basic cooking of nutritious meals and health snacks, general housekeeping and simple home maintenance tasks (such as changing a tap washer).
Aimed at strengthening skills and working within a young family’s capacity the program is a one-on-one home coaching service. Each family is carefully matched with an experienced volunteer. Practical guidance that many young parents separated from extended families miss out on can be provided in a safe, non judgemental and encouraging way.
Senior volunteers receive training to prepare them for working with families and are supported and supervised regularly. The program works alongside Communities@Work Family Support program, and referrals can be made to other services as needed.
SuperGrands is modelled on a successful program which has been operating in New Zealand for ten years. It is a Local Answers project funded for three years under the Australian Government’s Stronger Families and Communities Strategy.
