School and College Support

As part of a holistic view of education and support, Communities@Work Youth Services strive to work closely with youth workers, counsellors, health coordinators, welfare teams, educators, and support staff at local high schools and colleges. We offer support by:

    • Attending information days / expos at schools and colleges to raise awareness of the services we offer.
    • Supporting individual students both within school / college and outside with identified support requests.
    • Offering our venues for school groups, staff meetings and parent/information nights.
    • Running established groups within schools that support young people to increase their awareness of themselves, our service, and other supports available to them. These include:

Behaviour Management Workshop (BMW) — a program that supports participants to identify stressors that trigger their violent and aggressive behaviours. This program also gives participants opportunities to try different stress management techniques in the aim that they will reduce their destructive behaviours.

Bodywise workshops — this series of workshops focus on providing young people with information on a broad range of related topics. Areas covered include holistic health (including sexual health, mental health, physical health etc) alcohol and other drug useage, safe partying, relationships, knowledge, support structures, and most important – how to have fun.

Positive Nutrition — is a short program that looks at what is nutrition, what is positive nutrition, why positive nutrition is important to us, and how to cook nutritious meals on a budget.

Mentoring Programs — our youth services run a range of mentoring programs that focus on a particular recreational medium. These groups provide an opportunity for young people to meet qualified youth workers in a non-threatening environment. Recreational mediums used in the past include:- sports based programs, art based programs, graffiti art workshops, guitar lessons, agricultural programs.
