Ngunnawal Child Care & Education Centre

Communities at Work’s Ngunnawal Child Care and Education Centre is located within the grounds of the Ngunnawal Preschool and Primary School. Our environments are welcoming, vibrant, and flexible and cater to the individual and culturally diverse needs of each child.

About the Centre

Communities at Work’s Ngunnawal Child Care and Education Centre provides high-quality education and care for children within an Early Education and Care environment whilst also providing Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) services, including Before and After School Care and School Holiday Programs, for children attending pre-school at Ngunnawal Primary School.

The centre offers five care environments from birth to school age that offers a variety of learning spaces for children to explore and build a sense of belonging.  While most of our families live locally, some of our families also travel from further away such as Belconnen areas.

Why Choose Us

Our connection with the neighbouring local school enables smoother transitions for children attending the Ngunnawal Child Care and Education Centre into the Primary School environment when required. Our dedicated team of educators is passionate about supporting our local and wider community through a range of events and projects, such as external music programs, Lids4Kids, storytelling sessions and exploring the community through excursions.

A key focus of our centre is on sustainability and reconciliation. For instance, children at our centre have been learning about how things grow from seeds and the importance of looking after plants. The food we grow at the centre is provided to families, children and educators as well along with for use within the centre. We also emphasise the values of inclusivity and diversity at the centre, such as by teaching children how to read braille.

We’ve been with Ngunnawal Early Childhood Centre since January (2019), and our adjustment to a new school was hard. The kids didn’t want to leave their friends, they struggled to make new ones and learn new routines. The thing that made their struggle ‘okay’ for us as a family was the amazing staff at Ngunnwal.

The Room Leaders, the Educators, even the casual educators – every interaction we have, every question we ask isn’t just met with an answer, but an actual proactive solution. It didn’t take long for our whole family to start trusting the staff and enjoying our place in this community.

Ngunnawal runs like a business but feels like a community fair because it’s impossible not to notice how much energy and positivity the staff put into their relationships and engagements with the children.
