About the Centre

Communities at Work’s Stirling Child Care and Education Centre is a community-focused early education and care centre that promotes a welcoming, friendly and inclusive environment. Our indoor learning spaces are filled with natural light, offering a continuous connection to the outside environment. Our spaces are designed to ignite children’s curiosity, through specifically planned interactive and fun learning environments, which embed all learning styles, strengths and needs.

Our outdoor environment offers beautiful areas for the children to play, explore and be connected to the natural world around them. We have a large established tree, including a sand play area, native garden, bike tracks, peaceful shaded area for the children to relax, and a space designed for a communal vegetable garden.

We work with and have formed strong, caring and professional partnerships with a diverse range of clients from all backgrounds and walks of life. We ensure children and families feel welcomed, respected, listened to and most importantly valued.

Why Choose Us

At Stirling Child Care and Education Centre, we encourage and support mixed play, along with progressive transitions throughout the day. This enables and allows the children to have choice and flexibility and helps to support independence, decision making and a sense of ownership. This also ensures that educators can assist and support the daily needs of each child.

We provide avenues for children to learn through play, social interactions and development, risk-taking and experimentation. We’re dedicated to supporting children in building confidence, resilience and empathy.

We provide families with the reassurance that they need to know that their child is being cared for, educated and nurtured, in the most engaging, encouraging, and happiest environment. We are committed to maintaining and building ongoing positive, inclusive and meaningful relationships, with all our children, families and clients.

Our educators regularly engage children in a range of activities and experiences such as Reconciliation and NAIDOC week, Community of Practice play, excursions to Floriade, National Museum of Australia, and other significant landmarks around Canberra, as well as fundraising activities such as the Lids4Kids program that encourages a sense of community in the children.

Impact for our Families (Clients)

While Amelia (child) was staying at home during the lockdown period (COVID-19), our educators introduced Zoom sessions with the children. Amelia’s family provided feedback that Amelia had really enjoyed seeing her friends and would regularly ask when she would be able to see them again on the computer. This excitement and happiness from Amelia reinforced her feeling of belonging to Stirling, and the important friendships she has formed with her peers and educators. This also gave Amelia’s parents a feeling of support, care and normality throughout a very uncertain time.

Madelyn and Riley’s (siblings) parents have no relatives or real support network in Canberra. Being able to bring their children to the Centre during the COVID-19 Pandemic gave them a great sense of relief, as they were able to still attend work. Without this option and support, the family would have struggled and been faced with an even harder situation to deal with. The family were incredibly grateful that they were able to bring their children to the Centre knowing they would be cared for and supported by familiar educators who they had strong and understanding relationships with.
