This qualification is relevant to educators who are responsible for the day-to- day operations of a before and after school care and/or vacation care service, including planning, implementing and managing programs that address regulatory and duty of care requirements. Students will have responsibility for the supervision of volunteers and or other staff.
The qualification includes 25 units of competency and is delivered through classroom delivery. Class attendance is compulsory. Learning and assessment reflects requirements in real life educator roles. This includes assessment of your practical skills with children. Students need to be engaged in work, either paid or unpaid, with children and are required to complete a minimum of 240 hours of work placement in a licensed and registered education and care service with children up to 12 years of age.
Students can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit transfer (CT) if they meet the eligibility requirements.
It is a requirement of the Diploma of School Age Education and Care that you hold English language and literacy skills to a determined level. This will be assessed using the CPLE Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment.
