Communities@Work continues to work hard to support children, families, clients and our community during the COVID-19 crisis. Our highest priority is the health and wellbeing of your children and our educators and staff. Support for Families Experiencing Hardship
We know these are tough times and we want you to know that we are here for you. It’s times like these that we all need to support each other and reach out for support when we need a hand. We might not have all the answers, but we promise to listen and support you as best we can. We have a range of services to support families in need. Please speak to the manager of your service or centre or call us at 6293 6500 if you are struggling or need support.
The government also has a range of financial and other support available, and we encourage you to review these.
Click here for Services Australia’s information about financial and support options for families, including the ACCS, which we have provided more detail on below. Sometimes, it can take time for your application to be approved, so it’s a good idea to begin the process as soon as possible.
Additional Child Care Subsidy (ACCS) Temporary Financial Hardship
Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and Additional Child Care Subsidy (ACCS) has restarted from 13 July 2020.
Under the ACCS, you may receive up to additional child care subsidy towards your child care fees, for up to 100 hours of care per fortnight, if:
- You are experiencing financial hardship and you need help paying your child care fees.
- Your income has been reduced because you have lost your job, you are caring for a seriously ill family member or have recently lost a family member you may be eligible.
You can apply online via myGov, or in person by visiting your local Centrelink office. To support your application, it is helpful if you have evidence documentation that details the following:
- The event or incident that has caused your financial hardship, e.g. lost job, substantially reduced income, family illness, natural disaster etc;
- How this event has affected your family’s ability to pay your child care fees.

Communities@Work delivers high quality, engaging, inclusive and fun before and after school care to over 2.500 children through our 15 Out of School Hours Care services.
At Communities@Work before and after school care, children are encouraged to meet and make new friends and be active learners by trying new activities, including sports, incursions, excursions, music, cooking, gardening, construction play, drama, and arts and crafts.

Some of the activities in our before school care and after school care services have included Book Week, Wellbeing Activities such as dance lessons, mindfulness classes, and confidence-building sessions, and Community Links such as participating in events like Red Nose Day and World Environment Day in the past.
At Communities@Work Out of School Hours (OSHC) program, no two days are the same, and yet they’re tailored to children’s needs and interests. Communities@Work Family Day Care and In-Home Care services deliver high quality small group education and care, provided in educator’s own homes and tailored to individual family’s needs.
Communities@Work supports over 85 family day care educators who are self-employed professionals, committed to children’s education, and to their own professional learning. Our coordination unit supports our Family Day Care educators, dedicated to leading practice and learning in early childhood education and care. Our educators have been praised for their passion, interest, and connection to the children by the families accessing our services.
Our family day care educators provides a flexible home learning environment, with qualified and passionate early childhood educators delivering a natural approach to play and discovery.
