Activities and Events

Would you like to connect more with others in your community?

Conversations that Count with Infusion

Would you like to learn more about your community? Or maybe you just want to have a chat and develop new connections?

Through this initiative, our vision is to work alongside of the Canberra community to foster community connections, identify local assets and skills, and to support you to develop your community ideas.

This initiative is led by our Community Development Program, is an ACT Government funded initiative, and aims to:

  • Capture community feedback and ideas.
  • Provide information on local services, programs and activities.
  • Work with community to identify local assets and skills.
  • Assist communities to identify their goals and map out actions to achieve them.
  • Build greater community connections within individual suburbs, and between neighbouring suburbs.
  • Assist in the building of individual connections and networks.

In 2022, we launched a series of workshops, events and activities aimed at supporting the community’s wellness, wellbeing and connection-to-nature journeys. Residents of Tuggeranong, Molonglo Valley and Denman prospect enjoyed activities such as Nature Weaving, Guided Wellbeing Nature Walks, Basket Weaving, Harp Yoga, Watercolour, Floral Fun and gardening workshops.

The team are eager to run more wellbeing focused activities, if you have any ideas we would love to hear from you.

The Community Development Program has established two exciting initiatives that promote a love for reading: The Book Exchange and the Resource Library at the Denman Village Community Centre.

Book Exchange

The Book Exchange is located in Denman Village Community Centre’s reception area. It’s available during opening hours and to those who hire the centre. The exchange has a variety of books available, kindly donated by community, for community.

As it is a book exchange, we encourage those that take a book to also donate a book. Please make sure any books you place in the exchange are appropriate as this service is for community members of all ages.

If you would like to donate books to this initiative, please email the Community Development Program at communitydevelopment@commsatwork.org

Resource Library

The program has established a Resource Library at the Denman Village Community Centre, which is available for Communities at Work staff, volunteers, sector workers and community members.

These books are available for loan (up to 4 weeks). Please tell us which books you’d like to borrow and we’ll organise pick up details. Please provide us with your best contact number. If you need the book for a longer period please contact the team to discuss extension options.

The resource library has a range of titles available for loan and is a great way for you to access books that you may not normally consider or have access to. Visit our Community Building Resources for the full collection.

The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for people to practice and build confidence speaking English as well as to develop and strengthen social networks and connection within the community.

A weekly theme is chosen by the participants and an informal discussion and activities are designed around this topic. The group is held every Thursday 10am-12pm. There is no cost to participate, and tea and coffee is provided.
