Summer School Holiday Programs (2021-22) Open for Bookings
Our Summer School Holiday Programs (2021-22) are now open for bookings. Communities at Work offers School Holiday Programs throughout the year during all ACT School Holidays. Our programs focus on fun and delivering a new adventure every day for your child.
Our qualified and reliable educators provide more than just vacation care – they collaborate with children to ensure play, leisure and recreational activities are safe and meaningful. We place each child at the centre of our practice and build respectful and positive relationships with children, families and the community to develop connectedness, confidence and wellbeing.
Our school holiday programs generally include a variety of excursions to fun locations as well as incursions (external entertainment and activity providers conducting activities in-service). We run our holiday programs in several locations across Canberra and the ACT region.
COVID-19 Update : Due to the current community transmission of COVID-19, we have unfortunately made the difficult decision to cancel all high-risk excursions for the remainder of the school holidays (until Friday 28 January 2022). High-risk excursions are classified as those that involve large numbers of children and staff within indoor environments for extended periods of time.
All such excursion days have now been changed to in-service days. Please refer to the email received for details, or call the Enrolments Team on 1300 212 273 to discuss your bookings.
ALL of our school holiday programs will run from Tuesday 4th January 2022 to Friday 28 January 2022. The following services will run additional days as follows:
Monday 20th to Friday 24th December 2021: Monash, Neville Bonner & Isabella Plains School Holiday Programs
Monday 20th to Wednesday 22nd December 2021: Charles Weston and Maribyrnong School Holiday Programs
The Christmas shutdown period occurs from 25th December 2021 to 2nd January 2022 and we won’t be running any school holiday programs during that period. Additionally, 3rd January and 26th January are public holidays and we won’t be running any holiday programs during those days.
Our programs run from 7:30 am to 6 pm on weekdays, at the following 12 locations across Canberra. All locations are able to cater to children in preschool to year 6, except for Amaroo, which is unable to care for preschool-aged children:
We have planned a range of fun new activities for the holidays which include incursions, excursions as well as in-service activities. Please refer to the program calendars (daily highlights) to find out what’s in store for each location.
Some of the summer activities include:
Trips to the movies (excursions)
Excursion at the Canberra Aqua Park
Visit from the Summer Circus Circuit (incursion)
Excursion to a Live Theatre Presentation
Visit from Lil Ravers (professional DJ) for a light show and more (incursion)
Excursion at the Canberra Olympic Pool
Active Warrior Water Challenges at service (incursion)
Please note, not all activities will be available at all locations. Refer to daily highlights (program calendars) for specific activity lists. Activities are subject to the latest COVID-19 health advice.
We will continue to prioritise the health and safety of children, educators, families, and our community, guided by the latest advice from the ACT Government and ACT Health.
Your child will need to bring a healthy morning tea, lunch, a hat and a drink bottle. Please note that unfortunately we cannot cook or reheat lunches.
What should my child wear?
Anything that is comfortable and easy to move in. For activities that involve water (specified in the program calendars), we also recommend the child bring a change of clothes.
Are the activities the same for all age groups?
Each program is different, but we always ensure that all activities are age-appropriate. All our locations are able to cater for children from pre-school to Year 6, except for Amaroo which is unable to care for preschool-aged children.
Communities at Work is working to ensure that we are in the best position to support children, families, clients and our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to be guided by the latest regulatory advice from the ACT Government and ACT Health, ensuring the safety of your child is paramount. More information about this can be found on the dedicated COVID-19 page on our website.
