About #CraftItCBR

Communities@Work organised a #CraftItCBR Creative Craft Challenge for the Canberra Community, to promote art and craft activities while individuals and families stayed at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event encouraged participants to use their skills, imagination and materials that they may already have had at home to create a unique craft piece of the challenge. The craft entries were also shared on Communities@Work’s Facebook page throughout the event.

There were five challenge categories:

  • Something useful or functional (gain that nod of approval)
  • Something decorative or gorgeous (encourage people to look twice)
  • Something weird or funky (inspire curiosity)
  • Something to wear or accessorise (raises an eyebrow)
  • Something you like (just because you feel like it).

Participants were allowed to submit their craft entries by the deadline of 30 June 2020.

Congratulations to the Winners!

On Thursday 9 July, a panel of judges announced the #CraftItCBR Challenge Winners. Judges included Lee Maiden, CEO, Communities@Work, Rauny Worm, CEO, Tuggeranong Arts Centre together with Karena Keys, Visual Arts Program Manager, and Caroline Ambrus, Canberra artist.

What’s Next for our Craft Experts?

With the #CraftItCBR being such a success, our community development team is now working towards not just a craft exhibition, but a Creative Craft Skills Demo Expo.

We’re looking at a September timeframe for the event, to be held at the Tuggeranong Community Centre. Each participant will be provided with a space to use it how they see fit, from displaying work and business cards, to demonstrating skills and setting up for others to have a go.
