Latest News on COVID-19 in Canberra and ACT
A dedicated website with information about the health and economic response to the pandemic in the ACT is available at www.covid19.act.gov.au.
Canberrans are advised to reconsider travel to areas where COVID-19 outbreaks are occurring. COVID-19 is highly contagious and travel advice can change rapidly. Anyone who has recently travelled interstate should closely monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested if they develop symptoms – no matter how mild.
There are currently travel requirements in place for people coming to the ACT from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania. Find out the latest advice.
ACT residents should also remember to check restrictions for any state or territory to which, or through which you travel (including if restrictions apply at airports). Please also ensure you stay up to date with restrictions in other states and territories using the following websites:

Use Check-In CBR
From noon 15 July 2021, Check-In CBR is mandatory for all retail settings, including supermarkets, department stores, petrol stations, take away services, other retail settings, public transport and taxi, hire car and rideshare transport services – in the same way, it is already mandatory for restricted businesses, venues and events.
All Communities@Work’s locations will also require people to check in using the Check-In CBR app.
You will need to check-in regardless of how long you are planning to stay on-premises. Anyone who is 16 years or older must check-in, including staff.
If you don’t have a smartphone or are unable to download the app, a friend or relative that has the app on their phone can check you in as a guest. You can also ask the business to check you in using the app’s business profile. This is just as safe as using the app on your own device. If you are unable to check in on public transport, please ensure that you have a registered MyWay card.
Face Mask Requirements
From Saturday 10 July, the ACT Government is encouraging people to wear a face mask where physical distancing is not possible, such as public transport or crowded indoor venues.
Face masks will continue to be mandatory for all domestic air travel and while in the Canberra Airport, as well as for people under stay-at-home requirements while in the community.
You should also continue to follow the advice on mask-wearing in high-risk settings, such as hospitals, health facilities and residential aged care facilities. While there is currently no community transmission, masks will add another line of defence as we work to keep COVID-19 out of Canberra.

In Case of Restrictions
Despite there being no known cases of COVID-19 in the territory yet, the ACT government has revealed a roadmap of possible tiered restrictions, depending on the size and scale of any potential outbreak.
In the event of the implementation of the “Pause and Assess” stage, the ACT will essentially go into lockdown. Based on the current directive from the ACT Government, our Early Education and Care Centres, and our Out of School Hours Care services are likely to continue to operate as usual, unless otherwise advised.

Support for those affected by COVID-19
We know these are tough times and we want you to know that we are here for you. It’s times like these that we all need to support each other and reach out for support when we need a hand. Support Services for people experiencing hardship
Community Pantry: Communities@Work Community Pantries have re-opened and expanded. Our Gungahlin Community Pantry and Tuggeranong Community Pantry are operating Monday to Friday. For more information including opening hours, please visit our Food Support – Community Pantry page.
Crisis Support: We are continuing to help people experiencing hardship with crisis support, including medical scripts (capped), bus tickets, phone charging, showers, free food, and information and referrals to other support services in Canberra. Visit our Crisis Support page for details.

Seniors Centres, In-Home Support and Transport Services
Communities@Work’s Seniors Centre Programs, In-home support and Transport services are being continually monitored and we are adapting to the changing environment.
Our Seniors’ programs have re-launched in a revised format.
Our in-home and transport services are currently operating as usual with increased social and hygiene practices, noting that many clients are choosing to self-isolate. Please note that we have implemented screening questions and will avoid any non-essential visits.

Professional Qualifications and Training (RTO)
Our Registered Training Organisation, The Centre of Professional Learning and Education (RTO 88148), has adapted to fit the needs of the changing COVID-19 situation with the health and safety of our students, trainees and employers remaining our priority.
- Face to face support sessions have now resumed but in a more controlled manner.
- Centre visits are resumed for the services that approve them, with COVID-19 safety and hygiene measures in place.
- The professional development training sessions as per the professional development calendar are going ahead for the rest of the year unless advised otherwise for specific events.
- Our team are fully remote capable and continue to support students online as well via Canvas, phone, email and live and pre-recorded online webinar sessions using the Zoom and Loom platforms.
- Trainers remain in contact with students and continue to be accessible via phone, email and video conferencing options.

Important Advice for the Community

Advice Regarding isolation
If you have suspected or confirmed COVID-19, your doctor or other healthcare professional will provide advice.
Being isolated at home means that you must stay at home. You cannot leave home to go to work, school, or public areas (such as shops, cafes or restaurants), and must not use public transport, rideshare or taxis. Visitors who do not have an essential need to be in your home should not visit while you are in isolation.
The COVID-19 Hardship Isolation Payment is an ACT Government initiative that provides a safety net for Canberra workers who are required to isolate due to COVID-19.
Isolation is different than quarantine. Please refer to the ACT health website for more information.

Advice if you think you may have contracted Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Symptoms of COVID-19 include, but are not limited to: fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue and shortness of breath.
ACT Health recommends you to seek medical attention if you experience symptoms.

Domestic and Family Violence
During the COVID-19 outbreak, domestic and family violence has been on the rise, with almost one in 10 Australian women in a relationship experiencing domestic violence and two-thirds saying the attacks started or became worse during the pandemic.
If your relationship has changed, or you’ve noticed a change in a friend’s relationship, Canberra’s domestic and family violence services are open and ready to help.
