Our community is full of incredible individuals who go above and beyond to connect people, support neighbours, and help build a stronger, kinder place for all of us.
Through this series, we’re shining a light on these inspiring community champions, sharing their stories, their impact, and what motivates them. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to two amazing people: Avneet Rooprai and Jo Stratton.
Meet Avneet Rooprai
Denman Prospect has been home to Avneet, her husband Gagneet, and their dog Bruno since 2021. Together, they feel privileged to be part of this beautiful and growing community.

Avneet is one of the founding members of the Denman Prospect Community Garden, a space where not only plants grow, but friendships flourish too. Over time, she’s been involved in a range of community initiatives including Crafternoon, gardening workshops, 1000 Hearts, Astronomy Nights, and helping plan new ways to bring neighbours together.

Supporting the community has been both rewarding and exciting for Avneet. It’s allowed her to expand her network, learn new skills, and connect with fellow community members on a deeper level. As a passionate gardener, artist, crochet buff, and teacher, she loves sharing her skills and helping others feel welcome and connected.
Meet Jo Stratton
Jo Stratton is an Early Childhood Teacher and Educational Leader with 25 years of teaching experience, both in Australia and overseas. She currently teaches at Evelyn Scott Preschool.

As one of the founding team members when Evelyn Scott Preschool opened in 2021, Jo played a key role in shaping a culture that values children, families, and communities as partners in education. Jo believes that Denman Prospect is not just a great place to live and work, it’s a place where kindness, inclusion, and connection can thrive.
|
She also feels strongly about teaching children the value of community engagement. According to Jo, showing children how to connect with their community enriches their lives and gives them the power to inspire change, challenge the norm, and help build a better, more inclusive future for everyone.
