Great Friends in the Green Shed
Communities@Work teams up with iconic Canberra organisation to increase capacity in the Clothing Program and Best Dressed Store.
We have joined forces with Canberra’s recycling warriors, The Green Shed, to increase our donations in the Clothing Program and the Best Dressed Store.
Canberra’s iconic ‘reuse, recycle’ champions, The Green Shed, have saved over 47 million kilograms from landfill since operating. They play home to a range of unique and second hand goods for a bargain price, such as furniture, electronics, building material, bikes and homewares.
We now have marked Communities@Work donation boxes in both locations at Mitchell and Hume, specifically collecting donations of good quality professional wear and special occasion clothes and accessories.
The Social Programs team have been amazed at the quality of the goods coming through the door, with minimal sorting needed on our end.
CEO of Communities@Work, Lorcan Murphy, says, “With the capacity of The Green Shed and its impressive reputation in the Canberra region, we are placed in a better position to meet the needs of Canberrans who are experiencing hardship all throughout the year.
“The donations that come through our channels such as The Green Shed provide men and women in need with free clothing, shoes and accessories for job interviews, work experience or other special events. We look forward to continuing this invaluable partnership with The Green Shed into 2017.”
If you are planning a wardrobe clean out anytime soon, don’t forget to separate your clothing and donate your professional and business wear to the marked donation boxes. Any donations of casual clothing can be donated to the Green Shed in the boxes next to our marked bins.
We not only welcome donations of quality clothing and accessories but also of non-perishable food items. You can find food donation bins at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome, the Marketplace Gungahlin and the Tuggeranong and Gungahlin Community Centres.
