How you can support your community this Christmas

Donate to Communities@Work's Christmas appeal this year and support your Canberra community. There are many ways that you can help out.

Communities@Work Christmas Campaign 2016

For many people, Christmas is the time of year that we look forward to most. It means a table full of delicious food, giving and unwrapping gifts and quality time with the people we love.

But unfortunately, this time of year is not a happy time for everyone. For those struggling to meet the demands of everyday life, Christmas and the pressure to make it a special time can be just another burden to bear.

You can help us ease this burden by donating to our Christmas appeal. This is the busiest time for our Social Programs and we rely on donations from the generous Canberra community to help us meet the demands. Here’s how you can make a difference this festive season:

1. Donate non-perishable food items

We provide hampers over the holiday period packed full of food and essential items for the holiday season. To fill our hampers, we are looking for donations of tinned vegetables and meat, tinned fruit, jelly, long-life custard, ice-cream topping, Christmas cake/pudding, shortbread, mixed nuts, chips, confectionary, coffee, tea, cordial, bon-bons and serviettes.

2. Donate unwrapped gifts for children, teens and adults

Christmas is less about receiving than it is about giving. We would love donations of gifts for children, teens and adults. Children are often the first people we think to buy for but the joy of receiving a special gift never grows old. So this Christmas, consider donating a gift for teens or adults. Think; movie vouchers, creams, bath oils, cologne, wallets and bags, sports and fitness equipment, iTunes vouchers and electronic items.

3. Make a tax-deductible donation

You can do good this Christmas by making a once-off tax-deductible donation online. The money you donate ensures that we can continue providing essential services to people in the Canberra community all year round

4. Do your Christmas shopping online with Shopnate

If you do your shopping online, think about shopping through Shopnate. It doesn’t cost you a cent extra but the retailers donate a commission from the sale to our social programs. There are some fantastic retailers on Shopnate like Amazon, Expedia, Booktopia, The Iconic and Katmandu.

There are many ways you can help this Christmas! A little bit really does go a long way. Find out more about what we do all throughout the year.
