Capital Hill Early Childhood Centre
Communities at Work’s Capital Hill Early Childhood Centre offers long day care to families who work in Australia's Parliament House. Our location inside Parliament House connects us strongly with the surrounding community and families are welcome to visit throughout the day.
About the Centre
Capital Hill Early Childhood Centre is a 36 place service that provides permanent and occasional care bookings for families who work at Parliament House. Our 2 rooms welcome children from birth to school age. Our 2-room centre focuses on relationships and supports children to develop their own identity whilst cultivating empathy for others. We have a strong connection with the APH community and use it within the curriculum to broaden the children’s world views and assist with holistic learning.
Operational Information
We offer bookings for our regular long day care and occasional care services at the Communities at Work Capital Hill Early Childhood (Child Care) Centre.
Our opening hours are 7:30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday. We also offer extended hours to 9 pm upon request.
For non-parliamentary sitting days, our hours are 8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday.
Our age range of 6 weeks to 5 years means a strong focus on attachment and individualised care routines.
The children at our centre are provided with meals cooked by our onsite chef: a nutritionally balanced morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. We cater for individual dietary requirements and specific needs.
The fees for our centre (daily rate) is $159.52. Please note this rate is before the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is supplied, if eligible.
Why Choose Us
The team of highly skilled professional educators at Capital Hill Early Childhood Centre went through the assessment and rating process in 2018 and we are proud to be exceeding the NQS.
Our close-knit team of educators work hard with the children and families to build a sense of community, engaging on a regular basis with the people who work in our building.
At the end of each year, we speak with the children about our special friends in Parliament House who help us out. These could be gardeners who help care for our playgroup, the security team and the AFP who keep us safe, the people who work at the post office that we go to visit, the cleaners who keep our play spaces sparkling and so on.
One of the most beloved activities at our Capital Hill Early Childhood Centre is when our children and educators work together to make special cards and baked goods to show our appreciation for their help and support throughout the year. Not only do the children use their literacy and mathematical skills for this task, but they also learn the importance of showing gratitude and get to experience the joy of giving to others.
This is one of the many ways in which children at the centre are kept engaged, and how they learn new skills, social connectedness, and belonging to the community.
